If you’re comparing Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party vs. Disney Jollywood Nights, you’re not alone. It’s one of the biggest decisions families planning a Walt Disney World holiday vacation face each year. With tickets going on sale soon, now is the perfect time to compare these two popular Disney holiday parties before making your decision.
At first glance, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom and Disney Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios might seem similar. Both are festive, separately ticketed evening events featuring exclusive entertainment, holiday décor, specialty treats, rare characters, and lower attraction wait times than you may experience during a typical park day.
But once you step inside, you’ll quickly discover they each have a personality all their own.
One of our Dreaming of the Mouse advisors, Trish, attended both parties during the same Walt Disney World vacation. Her firsthand observations, combined with Disney’s latest event information, helped shape this guide so you can choose the holiday party that’s the best fit for your family.

Firsthand Experience
Portions of this comparison are based on Dreaming of the Mouse Advisor Trish’s visit to both holiday parties during the same Walt Disney World vacation. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party vs. Disney Jollywood Nights: The Overall Atmosphere
This is where these two events truly become different experiences.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
If you’ve dreamed of celebrating Christmas at Walt Disney World, this is likely the event you’ve imagined.
Main Street, U.S.A. is beautifully decorated, Christmas music fills the air, snow falls along the streets, and families gather to watch Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade before ending the evening with Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks.
It feels nostalgic, heartwarming, and full of classic Disney holiday magic.
Disney Jollywood Nights
Jollywood Nights has a completely different personality.
Instead of focusing on traditional Christmas nostalgia, Disney’s Hollywood Studios embraces the glamour of vintage Hollywood during the holidays. Elegant decorations, jazz-inspired entertainment, stylish décor, and beautifully themed spaces create an atmosphere that feels like stepping into a glamorous Christmas celebration from Hollywood’s golden age.
While you’ll find experiences like the Twilight Soirée near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror with live music, dancing, and specialty cocktails, Trish didn’t feel the event was designed exclusively for adults. Families were everywhere enjoying the evening together, although she did notice fewer young children than she typically sees at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Families with teens, young adults, or anyone who appreciates live entertainment and old Hollywood charm may find themselves especially drawn to Jollywood Nights.

Crowds and Attraction Wait Times
One of the biggest questions we hear every holiday season is:
Which Disney Christmas party is less crowded?
The honest answer is that crowd levels vary by event date and from year to year, so no one can promise one party will always feel less busy than the other.
That said, during Trish’s visit, Jollywood Nights felt noticeably more relaxed than Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
She walked right onto both Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, while Slinky Dog Dash was a minimal wait.
Character lines also moved efficiently. Stitch had the longest wait, but that was largely because he spent so much time interacting with guests. Mickey and Minnie were a short wait, while many other character locations remained very manageable throughout the evening.
Her biggest takeaway wasn’t necessarily that there were fewer people. It was that the evening simply felt less rushed, making it easier to enjoy attractions, entertainment, snacks, and characters without constantly racing from one experience to the next.
As with any Disney after-hours event, it’s still important to prioritize your must-do experiences before you arrive.

Entertainment
Both holiday parties offer exclusive entertainment you won’t experience during a regular park day.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
If holiday traditions are your favorite part of the season, this event delivers.
Highlights include:
- Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade
- Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks
- Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage show
- Dance parties
- Snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A.
Many guests consider the parade and fireworks alone worth the price of admission.
Disney Jollywood Nights
Rather than centering the evening around one parade, entertainment is spread throughout Hollywood Studios.
During her visit, Trish enjoyed:
- Disney Holidays in Hollywood (“Glisten!”)
- Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along
- Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!
- Twilight Soirée
- Character dance parties featuring favorites like Frozone, Edna Mode, and Joy
Because entertainment takes place throughout the park, the evening feels more flexible, allowing guests to build the night around their own priorities.
Character Experiences
Rare characters are one of the biggest draws at both holiday parties.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party features many beloved Disney characters in their holiday best throughout Magic Kingdom.
At Jollywood Nights, Trish found one unexpected advantage: the character interactions themselves.
Because many of the lines moved efficiently during her visit, the characters often had more time to interact with guests instead of simply posing for a quick photo. Stitch, in particular, spent several minutes entertaining guests while families waited.
If meeting characters is high on your priority list, either event is an excellent choice.

Food and Drinks
The food offerings are another area where these events differ.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Included with your party ticket are complimentary cookie and hot cocoa stations located throughout Magic Kingdom. Additional specialty treats are also available for purchase.
Disney Jollywood Nights
Rather than complimentary refreshments, Jollywood Nights features an expanded menu of exclusive holiday food and beverages available for purchase throughout the evening.
Trish felt there was something for both adults and children, and she appreciated that food lines remained very manageable, making it easy to sample several different offerings without spending much of the evening waiting.
Memory Maker
One pleasant surprise during Trish’s visit was that digital PhotoPass downloads were included with her Jollywood Nights admission, adding even more value to the evening.
As always, be sure to check Disney’s current event details before your trip, as included offerings can change from year to year.
What Should You Wear?
One of the most fun parts of either holiday party is seeing how guests embrace the festive spirit.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Magic Kingdom has a warm, cozy Christmas feel.
You’ll commonly see families wearing matching Christmas pajamas, holiday sweaters, festive spirit jerseys, Santa hats, and coordinating Disney Christmas outfits. Matching isn’t required, but it’s a fun tradition for many families and makes for memorable holiday photos.
Disney Jollywood Nights
Jollywood Nights has a noticeably dressier atmosphere.
Many guests embrace the vintage Hollywood theme with cocktail dresses, sequins, velvet jackets, festive suits, bow ties, and elegant holiday attire inspired by Hollywood’s golden era. Others keep it casual with Disney holiday apparel, so you’ll truly see a little bit of everything.
Whichever party you attend, comfortable shoes are still one of the best decisions you’ll make. You’ll likely spend several hours walking throughout the park.

Our Take
After attending both events during the same Walt Disney World vacation, Trish’s personal favorite was Disney Jollywood Nights.
She loved the more relaxed pace she experienced that evening, the memorable character interactions, and the vintage Hollywood atmosphere that gave the event its own unique identity.
At the same time, she was quick to point out that it’s difficult to compare the two directly because they’re designed to offer completely different holiday experiences.
If watching snow fall on Main Street, U.S.A., enjoying complimentary cookies and hot cocoa, and experiencing Disney’s iconic Christmas parade have always been on your bucket list, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party remains a holiday tradition that’s hard to beat.
If you’re looking for an evening filled with stylish entertainment, unique holiday offerings, old Hollywood charm, and a different way to celebrate the season, Disney Jollywood Nights is absolutely worth considering.
The good news?
There really isn’t a wrong choice.
The best holiday party is simply the one that matches your family’s vacation style.
